Whitening methods

Whitening at the dental practice

At Dental Pearls Dental Center, whitening is performed by the dentist, under special safety rules within 45 mins, using the innovative Zoom or Laser whitening lamp. The process begins with the careful isolation of the soft tissue (gums) in order to prevent it from coming in contact with the whitening material. The material is then placed on the teeth and refreshed every 15 mins. There are usually three cycles of renewal of the whitening material.

Whitening at home

It is made using personalized whitening trays and material less powerful than that used in the dental practice, provided by the dentist. Under the instructions of the dentist, whitening material is placed on the trays which should remain in the mouth 1-2 hours a day for 7-10 days.

Combination of the above two methods

This is the most appropriate method with the best results because it provides a deep whitening with longevity.

The result can last for many years, but it requires a renewal using the already manufactured trays, every 12 -18 months for 2-3 days.

Whitening at home with whitening trays – Where to pay attention

Before using the gel, it is necessary to have a good brushing of the teeth and use of dental floss and/or interdental brushes. For even better results, you can use a whitening toothpaste. The whitening trays should always be clean and dry prior to placement.

After removing the tray, you should avoid consumption of foods or beverages with high content in pigments. Smoking, red wine, cherry or strawberry juice, red meat, beetroot, turmeric, etc. should also be avoided.

If you feel any discomfort in your teeth after using the gel, stop applying it and contact your dentist.

Can everyone have their teeth whitened?

For most people, whitening can be carried out without any problems. In some cases, however, it should be avoided, such as when there is an active disease (caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, irreversible pulpitis). Also, when there is prosthetic work, whitening does not work.

How much whiter will the teeth be after whitening?

The result depends on the material, the method used, the teeth and the color of the skin.

Some patients respond well to whitening and have their teeth whiter by many tones, while others have less improvement. Teeth with a yellow tint get whitened better than those with a gray tint. Also the effect of whitening is more visible against a dark complexion rather than a yellow one. However, many systems guarantee a certain color and usually they achieve it.

Does whitening hurt?

With the materials available today, whitening is a painless aesthetic treatment of the teeth. A slight sensitivity during treatment is expected and should not be of any concern. Usually any discomfort is completely eliminated after 1-2 days.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

The cost of whitening depends on the method and material used by the dentist.
