A cystectomy is the surgical treatment for the surgical removal of cysts that develop around the roots of the teeth and elsewhere in the jaws. They may have a varied etiology and the cyst is usually removed under local anesthesia, with no pain. Their removal should be carried out by a qualified surgeon or oral and maxillofacial surgeon, as there are important anatomical elements (vessels, nerves) within the jaws that need to be protected.
