In Cosmetic Dentistry, two of the commonest interventions are restorations with Porcelain and with Resin Veneers. The Cosmetic Dentist can inform you in more detail regarding their use. It is good, however, to know their basic characteristics.

Porcelain Veneers are thin surfaces made of porcelain. Their role is the conservative restoration of teeth. They are no thicker than a contact lens. The aesthetic result we can achieve with Porcelain Veneers is excellent. They are also very bright and glossy and particularly resilient once they have been bonded to the surface of the tooth. With Porcelain Veneers, the Cosmetic Dentist can intervene much more drastically on your smile, by drilling and changing the shape of the teeth. For this reason, two visits are usually necessary for their application.

Resin Veneers, i.e. teeth Lifting or Bonding, is conservative restoration with composite resin. Their advantages include ease of application (only one visit required) and the possibility of corrective interventions (which is not the case for Porcelain Veneers). Resin Veneers are more fragile than Porcelain Veneers, they grind off and absorb pigments more easily, while they can get discoloured over time. That is why we recommend maintenance once a year and replacement after six or seven years. Resin Veneers have a lower cost and can, if you wish, be replaced by Porcelain Veneers in the future.

It is also important to know, before making your final choice with your Cosmetic Dentist, that you can combine both techniques for the architectural improvement of your smile. Porcelain and Resin Veneers can be combined without their difference in colour becoming apparent. Such a combined solution respects the tissues of the mouth and may make the aesthetic restoration or improvement of your smile more feasible, in relation to the amount you are able to spend.
